Girl Scouts — Dakota Horizons
2010 Cookie Sale

The 2010 cookie activity theme is focused on leading change to make the world a better place. Girls can leap into leadership during cookie sale 2010. Cookie sale activities are a great way for girls to learn new things and to have fun. Girls will “Leap 2 Lead” and challenge themselves while celebrating their power to make good things happen. During cookie time, girls learn the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment. They engage in a variety of fun Discover, Connect and Take Action activities that offer them opportunities to lead with courage, confidence and character.

Products and Price List
Girl Scout Cookies sell for $4.00 per box. The girls polish their entrepreneurial skills while earning fun incentive prizes and Dakota Certificates. The troops earn $.50 per box for troop activities and the cookie sale helps Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons Council underwrite the costs of providing quality programs, safe facilities and fun experiences for every girl in scouting. Eight varieties of Girl Scout cookies are offered this year.
Change in Box Content by Weight
As a result of an unstable economy and rising costs, Girl Scouts of the USA and the licensed cookie bakers decided to change the content by weight in some of the cookie varieties, rather than raising the price per box. The cost of baking a cookie today is significantly higher than it was a year ago and with transportation costs higher, several famous brands are raising their prices. Girl Scouts, like many others, have decided to lower the net weight of cookie boxes rather than ask our customers to pay a higher price during these difficult times. We hope Girl Scout cookie lovers will understand the situation and continue to support our girls. As the premier leadership organization for girls, we also intend to use these circumstances as a business learning experience for girls.

2010 Cookie Sale
January 29 – March 28, 2010
This year’s cookie sale theme Leap 2 Lead be the change is Leading girls by example is the best teaching tool you as a Girl Scout volunteer can use. Be the Change to your Girl Scout’s by making their day, teaching them a new skill or taking them on an adventure! Engage girls in a variety of fun Discover, Connect and Take Action activities that offer them opportunities to lead with courage, confidence and character. Without your volunteer leadership to guide them, the girls wouldn’t have this great opportunity. Below you will find some creative ideas for helping your Girl Scouts succeed!

As a Girl Scout Cookie Volunteer, your role at training is to make sure the girls and their adults have the information they need to have a safe, fun and productive selling experience.
1. Explain how everyone benefits-girls, troop and council. Have the girls explain their goals-both sales
and personal learning goals.
2. Ask family members to help with the training, snacks or games. Adults who are involved are more
likely to attend.
3. Emphasize the role of the girl in the sale and help adults understand how they can help their Girl
Scout gain leadership skills through the activity.
4. Announce important dates to remember, procedures for picking up cookies and handling money,
and whom to call for help. Emphasize the importance of safe selling.
5. Say “Thank You!” A little thank you goes a long way. People who feel appreciated are more likely to
help in the future and keep coming back.
