What's New
The New Girl Scout Leadership Experience

The New Girl Scout Leadership Experience!

The new Girl Scout Leadership Experience is the world’s best leadership experience that defines activities and outcomes, differentiated by grade level, for girls from kindergarten through high school, and offers flexible pathways for participation.

From the very beginning, Girl Scouts has been about developing girls’ leadership abilities.  Now we’re doing it better than ever with national, outcome-based program activities that are designed to guide girls along a life-long path to…lead with courage when they speak out on issues they care about and take active roles in their communities; lead with confidence when they make the most of their strengths and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives and beyond; lead with character when they act with integrity and compassion, making decisions that promote the well-being of themselves and others…as they continue to make the world a better place.

Three keys to leadership help define and shape

the new Girl Scout leadership experience.

 Discover                                     Connect                   Take Action

Discover

  1. Girls develop a strong sense of self.
  2. Girls develop positive values.
  3. Girls gain practical life skills.
  4. Girls seek challenges in the world.
  5. Girls develop critical thinking.

Connect

  1. Girls develop healthy relationships.
  2. Girls promote cooperative and team building.
  3. Girls can resolve conflict.
  4. Girls advance diversity in a multi-cultural world.
  5. Girls feel connected to their communities, locally and globally.

Take Action

  1. Girls can identify community needs.
  2. Girls are resourceful problem solvers.
  3. Girls advocate for themselves and others, locally and globally.
  4. Girls educate and inspire others to act.
  5. Girls feel empowered to make a difference in the world.

Girl Scout Processes

In Girl Scouting it’s not just “what girls do” (activities), but “how” (processes) they do them (activities).

Girl Led

Girls play an active part in figuring out the what, where, when, how and why of their activities.

Learning By Doing

Girls engage in hands-on learning processes that include continuous cycles of action and reflection.  The result is a deeper understanding of concepts and mastery of practical skills.

Cooperative Learning

Girls work together toward shared goals in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration that encourages the sharing of skills, knowledge and learning.

Girl Scout Journeys

A Girl Scout Journey is a new way that girls can participate in Girl Scouting. So in addition to traditional options such as Badges and Try-Its, girls now have another way they can be a Girl Scout.  Journeys are a packaged sequence of Girl Scout experiences, discussions, reflections and traditions that challenge girls to explore leadership.

A Journey has a beginning and an ending.  As girls travel the distance between the two, they learn and grow.  A Journey is the core for every member of Girl Scouts and fuels the Pathways in which girls participate.

Girl Scout Pathways

Girl Scout Pathways are the way that girls and adults participate in Girl Scouting and offers girls a wonderful opportunity to experience Girl Scouting through one or more of the six proposed flexible pathways.
